“Do What Jesus Did” with Robby Dawkins

Don’t get stuck asking “What would Jesus Do?”  Be equipped to do it!

What is the “Do What Jesus Did” event?

John Wimber famously asked the question, “When do we get to do the stuff?”  We are not only meant to believe in Jesus and what he did – we are meant to be transformed by his love and do what he did in our everyday lives today.  Jesus himself said, we would do greater things than he did (John 14:12).  Many of us would be content to see only a little of what he did in our lives.  We want to see the things he did expressed in our own lives and in our life together.  Jesus has invited us to participate in his mission – to change the world around us – to see God’s Kingdom here on earth!

At this event you will get practical and inspirational teaching, you will get to pray for others and be prayed for, and you will be equipped to go out and do what Jesus did.  God may well transform your life and use you to transform someone else’s life too!

Who is Robby Dawkins?

Screen Shot 2016-01-02 at 3.54.07 PMIn 1996 Robby and his wife, Angie, planted a church among the urban poor of Aurora, Illinois (Chicago).  More than half his congregation were drawn into God’s story through power encounters and miracles.  God called Robby for the purpose of building up and equipping the local church with “power tools” to do what Jesus did.  These “power tools” are prophetic ministry, healing, ministry of the presence of God, and deliverance from demonic power.  Robby tells hundreds of personal stories of God’s Kingdom breaking in anchored in practical biblical insights.

Robby and Angie have 6 sons and pastor Vineyard Aurora.  Robby is one of the most sought after Vineyard speakers in our movement.  He is known for films he has been featured in like “Father of Lights” and “Furious Love” as well as his books “Do What Jesus Did” and “Identity Thief“.

Vineyard Global Family Gathering

There is an exiting event being planned for this summer.  For the first time in perhaps forever, there will be a gathering of the global Vineyard family in Columbus Ohio.  More details will be forthcoming, but for now you may want to check out the event’s website here, and you may want to mark your calendars – July 6 – 9, 2015.

Gadlang Village Conference

One of the most remote and poorest Vineyard churches in the world just hosted a conference.  The village is called Gadlang and is in Nepal near the border of Tibet.  Amazing things happened as the believers pooled together resources and sought God together.  It’s a story of risk and reward.  Read about it here on the Himalayan Region Church’s website!

Changing Tracks – a reflection on Enlive

A reflection on the recent Canadian Vineyard’s National Celebration by Natasha Boone.

I remember the alarm seeming more obnoxious than usual that morning. Or perhaps I should say that night, as, when the beep-beep-beep of the alarm sounded, our room was still enclosed in night’s deep darkness. We stumbled around at the ungodly hour of 3:45am, in order to catch our early-bird flight out to Kitchener ON.

(The irony of getting up at an ungodly hour in order to catch a flight out to Enlive Vineyard family camp, where we would worship God with many other fellow Vineyardites was not lost on us).

Considering the time of day and likewise having a wiggly 14 month old sitting on our respective laps dropping Cheerios both over us and the person sitting next to us, we did alright.

So we arrive in Toronto, grab our luggage, stuff some food into Jude (14 month old of a wiggly disposition) and set out to Kitchener (about an hour commute). It is about half an hour into the drive and I suddenly had the thought ‘the playpen is missing’. Now, I do not know where this thought came from, as Sean was the one who took care to load the luggage into the car at the rental office. But the thought came floating into my brain, as if sent from above.

Sure enough, the playpen was not in the car.

With the car (eventually) turned around, we silently headed back to the airport. It was discouraging, as we thought that we had been going the right way (to Kitchener) with all the gear that we needed, when in fact, we had been driving for at least half an hour without something that we really needed – Jude’s playpen.

So long story short, we got back the airport, Sean re-traced his steps to the luggage pick-up area, and retrieved our neglected playpen from the nearly empty carousel. We got back on the (now familiar) road and were on our way again, a little dis-heartened, but glad to be moving forward.

So why tell you these details about getting up early, flying to Kitchener with wiggly baby in tow, driving for a bit, realizing that we missed a piece of luggage and so turning around, retrieving said luggage and getting back on track?

Because sometimes it is okay to acknowledge that something vital has been forgotten and steps are need to be taken to go back and ‘get’ that which was left behind.

Cheryl Bear offers a song.

Cheryl Bear offers a song.

One of the highlights of the Enlive Vineyard Family camp was hearing the guest speaker Cheryl Bear, a woman from the Nadleh Whut’en First Nation in British Columbia, who, alongside her husband, Randy Barnetson, happens to also pastor a Foursquare church in Vancouver.   As the Vineyard movement, we have done a lot of things well. Generally speaking, we have followed God’s voice and been submissive to his leading. As Ms. Bear pointed out in her talk, however, we have not given due honour to the Native peoples and culture in our midst. We have not been adequately inclusive and inviting. And this, along with a detailed and thought-provoking teaching on First Nation’s culture itself, is what Ms. Bear brought to the table.

It quieted the room, as conviction usually does.

I, for one, don’t like realizing that I have to do a u-turn. Or, as Ms. Bear, so eloquently said in reference to how the Vineyard movement in general has excluded First Nations (as well as women and Francophones, but that mention came later, during a speech by David and Anita Ruis) “it is ok to change tracks’.

It is okay to change tracks. Much like the realization that the playpen was left on the carousel, waiting to get picked up, it is ok, if not imperative, to turn back and get what is needed. What is missed.

The Vineyard movement needs the First Nations. Women are needed. Francophones are needed. All these, along with who the Vineyard movement is currently being comprised of, are needed.

It is okay to change tracks. It is necessary to go back and get that playpen.

Featured Speakers

Cheryl BearCheryl Bear is Nadleh Whut’en from the Carrier Nation in Northern British Columbia. Her story includes having earned a doctorate, and being an award winning First Nations recording artist and national and international speaker. She and her family are living the story by visiting every one of the 1000 First Nations communities, Reservations, Reserves and settlements in the USA and Canada sharing the Great Story of the Creator’s love and helping Native people to encounter Jesus. They have been to over 600 locations so far…and amazingly seem to have found “cuzzins” in every one. Cheryl is well known for her wisdom, sense of humour and ability to raise awareness of the value and uniqueness of Indigenous people and their culture.
David RuisDavid Ruis is a well-respected worship leader, songwriter and communicator who has opened the way for many people around the world to encounter Jesus. Together with his wife Anita, he is also known as a church planter and pastor having established churches in Canada and the US within the Vineyard family of churches. For the Ruis family, living the story involves a lifestyle that integrates creative worship expression with community that is engaged with the issues of poverty and social injustice. David has also been instrumental in seeing Vineyard communities established in Nepal and India. Much of his focus tends to be in indigenous settings, working amongst the poor as well as facilitating leadership development and fostering originality in songwriting and the arts in various cultural settings.
Robby DawkinsRobby Dawkins has been called by God to live the story by helping equip and release the church in the power ministry of the Holy Spirit. Power encounters with Jesus leading to radically changed lives have been a mark of the church he planted with his wife Angie in Aurora, Illinois and in his itinerant ministry all over the world. Robby teaches on prophetic ministry, healing, ministry of the presence of God and deliverance from demonic power: all ministries in which he, and others he has mentored, have been significantly used as God’s Kingdom breaks in with signs and wonders. He was recently featured in the movies “Furious Love” and “Father of Lights”. His book “Do What Jesus Did “ was released in June 2013.
