Vineyard Prayer Summit

It’s that time of the year again… when folks from all across our country gather in Edmonton for the annual Vineyard Prayer Summit.

Here’s the purpose:

Since 2003 the Canadian Vineyard family has gathered together every year to simply seek the face of the Lord and worship Him. Come join us this year and take the opportunity to devote two days for this very purpose.

Summit: February 28 & 29
Symposiums: February 27
(Suhail is speaking at one of the Symposiums)

Check out the website for more information including registration, location, schedule, etc.

Who wants to go? If you are planning on going we’d like to know about it – please let Ang Falk know.

Vineyard Prayer and Worship Summit – Edmonton

Every year, there is a national Vineyard event held in Edmonton called the Vineyard Prayer & Worship Summit. It is a time of gathering together to simply “seek the face of the Lord and worship him.” It is two days of worship and prayer and is always an impactful and encouraging time. Also, there is a pre-summit symposium that is designed to offer some training and teaching around particular topics. This year there are two symposium tracks: 1) How to develop a culture of prayer in your church community, and 2) Prophetic movement through dance.

Carol Wimber @ SVS

There are very few environments like the Society of Vineyard Scholars (SVS). Passionate, Spirit-filled, community minded followers of Jesus with distinctly Vineyard sensibilities gathering to discuss, dialogue, pray and worship with their whole hearts and their whole minds. I (Andy) have been going to the annual gathering for the past few years, and if I’m honest, have been stalking SVS since it began 10 year ago. 😉 Every interaction I’ve had, whether it has been downloading a paper from the SVS forum or going to an actual event, I always come away enriched and encouraged. What we think really does make a difference in how we live, and the SVS is a great place to think about God (do theology) in community.

My first year I was sitting next to a guy I had just met. We were chatting and then in mid conversation the tone shifted. I interrupted him and said, “wait a minute, are you giving me a word right now?!” In a distinctly Californian accent he said, “ya, that’s how we do it”, and continued to share with me three prophetic words that turned out to be very accurate and important in my life. At that same event I was further enriched by quality teaching, lively dialogue, creative expressions of worship and practical ideas to try out in WCV – I came away with a full heart and a full mind.

This coming year, the SVS gathering is within driving distance for us… it’s in Minneapolis. And, this year will be a special one because Carol Wimber will be interviewed in one of the plenary sessions. This is a rare opportunity to hear Carol as well as Bob and Penny Fulton, all pivotal people in the development of the Vineyard, reflect on the early history, identity and influences of our movement.

This conference is for academics, pastors and leaders… but it’s not just for people with lots of letters behind their name – it’s really for anyone who loves to think deeply – for anyone who loves to worship with their whole selves, including their minds! How about we go together?!

Here’s Caleb Maskell, one of the SVS founders:

Who should come?:

>>May 2 – 4, 2019

>>Minneapolis, MN.

>>Hosted at Mercy Vineyard

>>This year’s theme is The Coming of the Spirit and the Life of the Church.

If you are interested in going, let Andy know and we’ll see if we can caravan together!

Himalayan Region Conference and Trip Postponed

As many of you may already be aware, the Himalayan Region Vineyard’s AVC release party and conference which was planned  for this Fall has been postponed due to political unrest.

There have been ongoing strikes in the Darjeeling area of the Himalayan Region of India.  The massive movement of people, foreigners and locals alike, would have attracted undue attention and likely would have had negative consequences.  So, the HRV leadership team decided it best to postpone the conference.  In the meantime we will pray for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and that our brothers and sisters would be safe and be able to access all the supplies they need during this indefinite shutdown.  The aim of the protests is to secure statehood for “Gorkhaland” – so far eight people have been shot dead and the economic repercussions of the strike threatens many with hunger and violence.

The leadership team says:

“We ask the Global  Vineyard  Family to stand with us in prayer for a peaceful resolve of the conflict and the safety of all peoples on the region. We need your ongoing support for all the opportunities that God has given us to reach the lost for the Kingdom.”

Hebrew 2:8,9 God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them. But we do see Jesus Our passion for Jesus remains.

Himalayan Travel Update: Subsidy & Other Details

We’ve got a team of about 13 people interested in going to the Himalayan Region Vineyard Church’s anniversary celebration in Siliguri, India this September!  This is exciting – it’s going to be a great time.  We’ve had to move the travel subsidy deadline to May 1 due to the need to firm up tickets, visas, etc.  If you’ve been holding off letting us know if you’re interested, please hold off no longer.  Contact the office right away.

New Travel Subsidy Deadline:

May 1 is the deadline if you require subsidy (it was previously May 31).  After May 1 we will determine the exact subsidy for each person.  We will also reserve a group of tickets through one travel agent.  If you decide to join later, you may or may not be able to get the same flight path, so it’s best to sign up together so we can travel together.  It’s more fun that way!  The office will organize the flight details through a travel agent, but each individual will be required to contact the travel agent to pay whatever is owing after the subsidy is applied.

Possible Itinerary:

  • Check with your physician or the travel health clinic regarding recommended immunizations.
  • India and Nepal are nearly 12 hours ahead of us.  This means that it takes a long time to get there and that jet-lag is a significant factor in recovery.  Plan for a few days of recovery when you return to Winnipeg (don’t go back to work right away).

Approximate Costs:

  • Wpg – KTM – Wpg Flights: $1,500 – $1,900 (fluctuates depending on options and routing)

An Invitation to Travel… to the Himalayas!

Here’s a very special invitation for everyone at WCV.  September 27 – 30 the Himalayan Region Vineyard is hosting a big conference during which they will be commissioned to be their own Association of Vineyard Churches.  This is an exciting and normal part of the growth process for groups of Vineyard churches.  This release as their own association won’t change their relationship with us – we will still be family – but it is significant and cause for celebration.  Vineyardites from around the world will gather in Siliguri, India (see map below) in what we expect will be the largest gathering of Himalayan Region Vineyard people ever.   It will be a big deal.  Of course, it would be wonderful to have as many WCVers there as possible – and we want to help make that happen.

There will be limited travel subsidies available to help get WCVers there.  If you’ve always wanted to go to the Himalayas, perhaps this is an opportunity that would work of you!  If you are interested in going and if you would need a subsidy please contact the office.  Amounts of subsidies will be determined later but please note they will only cover a portion of the travel.

Depending on interest from the group, we may add on a trip to Kathmandu after the conference in Siliguri.

Fragrance of Justice Audio

20 years ago, we hosted a watershed event.  It was a conference called the Fragrance of Justice.  John Wimber, in what was to become one of his last conferences he did before he passed, as well as Jackie Pullinger and David Ruis were the primary speakers.  There are some real gems in the teaching.  They’re great for summer listening, road trips, etc!

Dwelling in the Borderlands – National Gathering

Hey there WCV – we’re hosting a new kind of national gathering this year!  People from all across the Vineyard landscape in Canada will be converging here, for a Vineyard Metanoia (means think again – usually translated as repent) initiative called “Dwelling in the Borderlands.”  It will be a time to come together in a posture of prayer, reflection, worship and liturgy to hear and discern what the Spirit is saying to us as a community of communities.

Help Out

We’d really love to be great hosts for our national family.  If you would like to contribute, here are a few ways we need help:

  1. Billet guests –  please let us know details (how many beds, male, female, couples, etc).
  2. Help with general hospitality (food, snacks, coffee, etc).
  3. Design & Vibe creators – these events are intended to be experiential and creative which means we need help setting up & decorating the main gathering space!
  4. There will be other ways to help – keep posted.

Please contact the office if you’re interested in any of these.

Justice Flow: 8 Essential Movements

God’s Kingdom is marked by justice.  Wrongs are made right wherever and whenever his will is done.  Yet we all have basic assumptions about what is right and how to go about welcoming his activity in our lives and communities.  In “Justice Flow” we will explore 8 essential movements that just communities embrace.  These 8 shifts in thinking and practice are critical as we walk faithfully and effectively with the marginalized in our societies, cultures and economies.  These movements, like a river, are always flowing – always inviting us to jump in.  We can stand on the banks, or we can jump in and let the current of God’s Kingdom take us to new places as we join him in his restorative work.

What:

This event will be filmed and used as the basis for a new Vineyard Institute course on justice.  Footage will also be used in new Vineyard Canada material.  However, we’re not content with the “talking head” format of teaching – we want to create an engaging learning environment in which participants are challenged, inspired and encouraged through teaching, storytelling, activities and creative interaction.

If you want to get a taste of what some of the teaching in the Vineyard School of Justice is like, this is a great event for you!

Who:

Everyone is welcome to attend.  There are no special requirements other than you want to engage in the material!

Beth WoodBeth Wood is the community connections pastor at the Metro Vineyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  She brings a wealth of experience working in the public and private sectors in Canada, Brazil, Angola and Rwanda.  Her teaching is thoughtful, engaging and practical.

Andy Wood TeachingAndy Wood is a pastor at Winnipeg Centre Vineyard.  He founded the Vineyard School of Justice in 1999 and has lived and worked in the inner city in Winnipeg for the past 18 years.  He draws on local experience, like starting Flatlanders Inn, and international work in the Philippines and Nepal.

When:

April 8 – 9, 2016

  • Friday 7 – 9pm
  • Saturday 9am – 4pm

A light lunch will be provided on Saturday.

Where:

Winnipeg Centre Vineyard, 782 Main St. – Flatlanders Studio, 3rd floor.

Registration:

Because of the nature of the event, we ask that you not come and go since this will disrupt the filming.    There is no cost to this event, but there will be an opportunity to contribute to the snacks and lunch that will be provided on Saturday!  If you have any questions, please contact Andy.
