Messages of Love

Over the past few weeks many people have contacted WCV with messages of love, encouragement and assurance of prayer for all of us. Here are just a few we’d like to highlight for you now.

The LORD is close to the broken hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

“In all circumstances we look to the Lord, and our great comfort is that He is close, especially to those who are “crushed in spirit”. My encouragement is that you would keep turning toward Him. Speak honestly to Him. Many are praying, most hours of every day, that you would experience the Holy Spirit’s presence very near to you. We are sending you our love.”

And this week Provencher Community Church gifted us this painting that was created for our community during a recent worship service. It was delivered personally, with warmth and love. The back is signed, “Standing together with our Vineyard family.”

There are many more messages like this that will continue to be shared.

Kids Church Start Up

Our WCV Kids Church will resume next Sunday, September 16th. This Sunday’s service will continue to model our typical summer schedule. A video series is being shown in the Comfy Couch Room during the sermon as an option for the kids. Parents are asked to stay with their children if they are watching the video. All are welcome to remain in the service as well.

Serving Opportunities

Looking to serve? We are excited to start kids church in the fall but we are in need of leaders who are willing to love on our kids. Contact Jodi if you can be on a rotation to serve our younger ones.

Want to paint? Some of our kid’s church rooms are in need of some paint touch ups. Contact Jodi if you have experience in painting and have a few hours to serve in this way. Also a huge thank-you to the Miles Mac Key Club for a beautiful job of painting the Dragonflies room. Thanks to Joseph for organizing this!

Looking to help in a practical way? We are looking for a couple of servants who would be willing to clean our toys in three large areas of kids church. Contact Jodi if you have a few hours to serve in this way.

WCV Community Campout

About 40 of us made it out to our annual community campout over the long weekend. The weather was just right, the fire well tended, friendship was nurtured and the food kept flowing as we shared with one another. There is something special about being together like this – away from the busyness of city life. We welcomed in new friends and sat with old friends too. Some highlights this year included a C.S. Lewis read aloud around the fire, an entertaining game of Jenga and a delicious feast that was joyfully prepared by Bill and Katherine. In the middle of it all, one member of our community looked up and said, “People are so generous here.” It’s really true. Thank you to everyone who came out. You extended love to each other in such beautiful ways.

Vineyard Himalayas Stories and Vision Night

You are invited to join us on Wednesday, July 18th at 7:00pm for an evening with Pastor Noel Isaacs. Since it’s beginnings, Winnipeg Centre Vineyard has had a special connection with the Himalayan Region Vineyard (HRV) and the work that is happening there. Noel Isaacs planted the first Vineyard church in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1995 and he’s continued to serve and lead the HRV for the past 23 years. Over the years, many people from WCV have visited the HRV churches and meaningful relationships have developed between us.

“The HRV churches have been a steady source of healing and hope in their communities.”

Noel will share stories from the region and explain the heart and vision behind this work. He will also provide an update about the restoration and reconstruction of the churches and homes that were damaged or destroyed by the 8.0 earthquake Nepal suffered in April of 2015. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear first-hand about the ways in which the HRV churches have been a source of healing and hope in their communities throughout this time.

This past Sunday we gathered together to celebrate Pentecost, an important day on the church calendar that commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit to all people. If you were there, you may have noticed the kids (and some adults, too) working away on a community art project as we worshiped. The children were asked to respond to the question, “What is God like?” It was a moving experience to watch their answers unfold. This is what they said:

“God is the best, God is a protector, God is comfort, God is light, God is joy, God is nice, God is mercy, God is happy, God is strong, God is humble, God is caring, God is aware, God is peace, God is life, God is forgiving, God is kind, God is a loving father, God is a mama bear, God is encouraging, God is hope, God is powerful, God is love, God is powerful love.”

Above all of this, we wrote the words, “They were praising God together.” This is one way to describe what happened at Pentecost and what happens among us now. If you have a chance to look closer at this wall, please do. The children’s joy was palpable and their whimsical wisdom flowed free.

 

 

WCV Community Campout 2018

Our annual WCV Community Campout is just around the corner. Good things happen gathered around a fire and we’d love for you to be there! Join us June 29-July 1 at Birds Hill Park. The cost is $30 per tent for the weekend. If you are unable to make it out for the whole weekend consider coming for the day on Saturday or Sunday. Our regular Sunday service will be held at the campground followed by a baptismal service at the beach.

Immanuel Prayer Training & Workshop

“For the broken places in our lives . . . ”

One of the consequences of living in a broken world is that we experience emotional pain. That pain often results in an emotional wound. An emotional wound, just like a physical wound, needs to heal or it has life-long consequences.

Immanuel Prayer is a model for inner healing ministry that revisits the places of emotional pain and wounding in our lives. Jesus knows where those areas of our lives are and faithfully and lovingly visits them with us, speaking healing words of truth and grace. This model of inner healing prayer is based on the meaning of Immanuel: God with Us. Jesus was there in the most painful moments of our lives whether we were aware of his presence or not. Immanuel Prayer is ministry to the unresolved emotional pain we carry with us.

The more whole we are, the more room there is for others in us. The more whole we are, the more capacity we have to love.

We will be hosting an Immanuel Prayer Training and Workshop with Danny Mullins.
