Men’s Event

Hey, it has been just a little over a month now that we had the retreat, and we thought it would be a great time to reconnect with everyone. Richard called us to examine our fig leaves, what things have we used in our time, resources, identity that we hide behind, things that protect us from being vulnerable, and living out our identity as sons. The retreat was a great time to become vulnerable, and to share with other men in the community.

For the mens night we would love to reconnect, have a meal with each other, share some thoughts on the retreat and of course hang out. Can’t wait to see you there!

Retreat… Retreat…

Sometimes life can feel a little overwhelming, busy, lonely – like life is waging a war against your sanity by hurling all kinds of… um… manure at you. Sometimes it’s good to go into retreat mode – to get away from the regular in order to relax and recharge. That’s exactly what we’re going to be doing on our Men’s Retreat, April 12-14 (starting Friday evening, ending Sunday afternoon) at Camp Arnes.

You are invited. Whether you’re young or old, a newcomer or a long-time Vineyardite – whether you can afford it or not, or if you feel like you need it or not – you’re all invited.

It will be a relaxed time to be together, hang out, be refreshed, renew old friendships and make new ones. Also, during a few sessions we will explore the theme “Tending our Hearts” with special guest, Richard Jones (from Fatherheart Ministries). Amenities include archery, swimming pool and hot-tub, the great outdoors, etc!

When: April 12-14

Where: Camp Arnes, MB (100 km North of Winnipeg on the shores of Lake Winnipeg)

Cost: $90 (accommodation and food included). If you need subsidy, or cannot afford this, please contact the office. We don’t want the cost to limit anyone!

Who: Every guy

Reserve your spot with a payment.

>>>Thank you to everyone who registered for the retreat! Registration is now closed.

Men’s Getaway – Reflection & Survey

The 2016 Men’s Lake Getaway has come and gone.  The takeaways from it all still loom large with most who attended.  To wit, Darnell O’Cheek’s wet cloths were returned to him recently together with the memory of jumping into the lake immediately on his arrival.  Getting back to his nature roots Friday evening was a huge throwback for Darnell even if he had to leave early Saturday because he was sick.

front pageCertainly, No Man Was An Island on the weekend.  There were just too many of us (65) to hide.  The camaraderie and friendships were quite strong and we all got to know new people.  Together with perfect weather and the activities, we all had a blast topped with excellent food (thanks Peter).  Another great steak dinner to remember.

The focus on the topic was inspiring with Rick Hill leading the way.  The discussion groups revealed a lot about ourselves.  The worship was tops.  Everyone pitched in and made it easy to pull off.

For the record, so we all are reminded, the stories of Jonathan and his armour bearer who had his back invigorated us to compare the benefits of those relationships to our lives.  Where are we vulnerable and how can friends make us strong?  Eccles. 4:9-12 was the biblical challenge to connect at a much deeper level to find the strength that we all crave.

We want to challenge all the guys who were there, and those who couldn’t make it, to become connected with the whole vibe of what a Men’s Group could possibly become for all of us.  We don’t have a complete sense of what that could look like.  And we don’t want just a few leaders pushing ahead on anything more than we have now.  Anything that could or might develop throughout the year needs to be organically driven by need for all of us.

Don’t we need each other all the time?  Could we not craft some kind of “GUYS at WCV ” focus and build some events around a desire to stay connected and stay off the Islands of our lives?

Thank you to all those who completed our survey!

What & Why?

Let’s Have Fun:

Let’s get together and enjoy this beautiful spot of creation and each other’s company.  Swimming, boating, canoeing, golfing, hiking, camp-fires, late night games & snacks, cannon-balls off the dock into the refreshing waters of Clearwater Bay – there are loads of fun activities we can do together.  Plus we’ll have amazing food served up by our talented WCV chefs.

Let’s Hang Out and Be Encouraged:

In the midst of having fun together, we’ll get to know each other better.  While the whole weekend will be pretty informal, there will be a few times of worship and prayer plus we’ll have the chance to hear a few WCV guys share thoughts that will encourage and inspire us on the topic of experiencing God.
